HartSong Ranch Mission

As often as we are able, we extend a hand of kindness to animals in need of permanent sanctuary. Nearly all are victims of unspeakable cruelty. Many have special needs. We tend to their wounds, encourage their spirits and when they are ready, we settle them into a world of quiet and tranquility, a paradise within nature, a forever home… a place where they will suffer no more.

We are also advocates for the humane treatment of farm animals, celebrating the vivid emotions of horses, cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys & geese. We strive to enlighten the public about farm animal emotions through sanctuary tours and rescue efforts, focusing on humane education and alternative lifestyle choices.

Clipper

As if he were the main character out of Anna Sewell’s 1877 classic “Black Beauty”, Clipper, the rescued race horse, is doing well at HartSong Ranch.

Like Black Beauty, he soon discovered, "... here my story ends. My troubles are all over, and I am at home."

Born in 1988, Clipper was a race horse; perhaps with a champion’s pedigree.  He has a tattoo on the inside of his lip that may link him to Man o’ War, one of the most remarkable race horses of the 20th Century.  But when the Thomas family of Georgetown found him at a Kelsey ranch two months ago, he was near starvation.  They saved him; then realized he needed more intensive care and attention.  Cameron, the Thomas’ 13 year old son, suggested that they contact HartSong Ranch.  They did, and last month Clipper joined 9 other sanctuary horses at HartSong.

Support for Clipper received a generous boost from Karen Gray of ArkAngels in the form of a check for $1,000. The money came from the sale of the ArkAngel music CD. All funds from the sale of the CD are donated to support HartSong Ranch, PAWED, and Sierra Wildlife Rescue.

The ongoing saga of Clipper is as enriching as it is intriguing. It was covered well by the Mt. Democrat. And now chronicled by Kathy’s blogs(Clipper Updates) . Watch for continuous updates.
